Food for Thought ATX

Join us for Entrepreneurs Foundation’s Spring Service Week: “Food for Thought: Experiencing Austin’s Robust & Fragile Food Ecosystem”!

EF member companies and their teams are invited to learn more about Austin’s robust and fragile food ecosystem – volunteering, panels and discussions, touring farms, cooking classes, and a movie (Chef) under the stars at Mobile Loaves & Fishes Community First! Village.

This year’s Spring Service Week is May 21st – 25th, 2018. Austinites enjoy a thriving farmers’ market system, some of the best grocers in the country, numerous farm to table restaurants, a robust and envied local food ecosystem. But not everyone enjoys these benefits. Poverty, ill health, lack of transportation, and awareness of availability can deny access and contribute to poor nutrition for too many. A recent study in 2016 by Dr. Raj Patel and Erin C. Lentz found that 25% of Austinites are suffering from food insecurity.

We are partnering with the following nonprofits:
• The Sustainable Food Center (SFC)
• Urban Roots
• Mobile Loaves and Fishes & Community First!
• Farmshare Austin
• Meals on Wheels
• The Central Texas Food Bank
• Multicultural Refugee Coalition

On Monday, May 21, 2018, from 4 – 6 pm, we’ll kick-off the week at Capital Factory with some good food, drinks, and panels discussing Austin’s robust food ecosystem, barriers to access and solutions. RSVP to attend here!

The week includes corporate volunteer opportunities during the day paired with fun, informative events in the evenings. The teams are volunteering from Monday through Friday – activities range from outdoor work in community gardens to indoor work in food pantries, to administrative tasks. In the afternoon and evening, events will include healthy food-based cooking classes, farm tours, farmers’ markets, and the movie screening of “Chef”. RSVP to the movie night here! We’re working with local grocers and restaurants, farms, and more to bring together an impactful week for everyone involved.
